“it was when I stopped searching for home within others and lifted the foundations of home within myself I found there were no roots more intimate than those between a mind and body that have decided to be whole.” -rupi kaur
I’m Tesia - an active practitioner, student, and teacher of mindfulness and meditation. I completed my Master’s in Counselling Psychology with a specialty in Mindfulness-based interventions in therapy. I'm a Clinical Associate in Sea Glass Psychological Services offering psychotherapy under the supervision of Dr. Lynette Monteiro, C.Psych, and a Registered Psychotherapist working in supervision under Michelle Sorensen, C. Psych. at the Ottawa South Resiliency Clinic. As a Qualified Teacher of mindfulness, I teach the 8-week Mindfulness-based Symptom Management program in the Ottawa Mindfulness Clinic.
As a young undergraduate student, I began practicing meditation to help cope with stress and anxiety of a major life transition. I immediately saw the power of stillness and silence as a way to develop insight and cultivate present moment awareness. Meditation quickly became a routine practice, wherein I’d learn to sit with distress and eventually better handle my own thoughts. In 2016, I began my Master’s degree in counselling psychology, and I was opened to the world of Mindfulness as a therapeutic intervention. Mindfulness has become a part of my daily life. Together, my passion and willingness to share in this practice with the world ultimately became my life’s calling. I believe in an experiential approach to Mindfulness, and I attribute my ongoing practice to happiness, health, and healing energy.
